Brow Tint vs Henna Brows: What’s the Difference and Which Should I Choose?
· 3 min read · By the Clover studio team

The short answer
Brow tint colours only the brow hair and lasts about 3–5 weeks, giving natural depth. Henna stains both the hair and the skin underneath, creating a temporary ‘filled-in’ look on skin for about 1–2 weeks and on hair for several weeks. Tint suits most people; henna suits those who want a shadowed, filled effect.
Both make brows look deeper and more defined. They just do it in very different ways.
How brow tint works
Brow tint is a gentle cosmetic dye designed for brow hair. It coats and colours each hair, making light, fine and greying hairs visible. Any slight colour on the skin wipes off at the end of the appointment. It lasts about 3–5 weeks on the hair.
Best for: fair, red, blonde or greying brows; finishing a lamination; anyone who wants a natural, “my brows but better” look.
How henna brows work
Henna is a plant-based colour that stains both hair and skin. The skin stain creates a soft, shadowed “filled-in” effect, a bit like a brow powder that stays on. The skin stain fades in about 1–2 weeks, faster on oily skin; the hair colour lasts longer.
Best for: people who fill in their brows daily and want that look to last a little while.

Safety and patch testing
Whatever you choose, patch test first — especially if you’ve reacted to hair dye before. Note that some products marketed as “henna” contain added dyes; pure henna is a different thing. Read our guide to safety and patch tests.

Quick questions
On the hair, both last several weeks. Henna’s skin stain lasts 1–2 weeks; tint doesn’t stain skin noticeably.
Not automatically. Pure plant henna is gentle, but some ‘henna’ products contain added dyes. Both should be patch tested.
